Nigel Tinkler is counting on course experience to help Lord Roxby make an impact in Saturday’s William Hill Great St Wilfrid at Ripon. The four-year-old booked his place in the big six-furlong handicap with a recent success at the track, leading from the front off a 5lb lower mark, and will be reunited with apprentice Alex Jary for the feature.
Tinkler opted to run the gelding in that Ripon heat as a deliberate test of whether he handled the unique characteristics of the Garden Racecourse. Having emerged from the outing in good order, the trainer rates the familiarity with the track as an advantage, even though Lord Roxby has drawn the six stall, which is not ideal.
