Breacher to face Group Three test in Solario Stakes
William Muir will bring the Cracksman colt Breacher to Sandown on Saturday for the BetMGM Solario Stakes, stepping the juvenile up to Group Three level after an eye-catching winning debut at Salisbury in late June.
Breacher has not raced since that Salisbury success; a blood test problem prevented a planned return in the Stonehenge Stakes. Connections report the colt to be back to full fitness for the Solario, where he is one of ten declared for the seven-furlong contest.
Trainer perspective and comparisons
Muir has been encouraged by Breacher’s early work and has previously remarked on the colt’s potential relative to past stable performers. The trainer has stressed caution in drawing long-term conclusions from a single juvenile outing but sees the Solario as a useful next step to assess the colt against stronger opposition.
Breacher’s debut performance prompted comparisons with Pyledriver, another successful Muir trainee who also began his career with a Salisbury victory. Muir has made clear that while the early form is promising, Breacher will need to prove himself as he faces higher-grade rivals.

Muir has indicated that Breacher possesses speed suited to seven furlongs but that a mile would not be beyond him. The immediate plan to contest the Solario reflects that versatility. However, the trainer is mindful of the going: he prefers faster ground for this family and would be concerned if rain were to make the track soft or heavy.

The Solario has a strong recent roll of honour, with past winners including Raven’s Pass, Kingman and Masar. The 2024 renewal was taken by Field Of Gold, underscoring the race’s place as a proving ground for juveniles destined for higher targets.
This year’s field features a number of well-regarded two-year-olds from leading yards. Roger Varian’s Rock Montreal, successful on debut at Yarmouth in Godolphin colours, heads the market, while Simon and Ed Crisford have declared dual winner Sonic Angel. Breacher will therefore meet a competitive set that will give a clearer indication of his class at this level.
Other Group Three action on the card
Sandown’s card also includes the BetMGM Atalanta Stakes. Sir Mark Prescott is set to run Moon Target after the filly finished fourth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and third in the Prix Rothschild. Moon Target will be one of two runners from Cheveley Park Stud, the other being So Regal from John and Thady Gosden, who has not raced since finishing second at York in May.
Further entries of note in the Atalanta include Ralph Beckett’s unbeaten Secret Of Life and Owen Burrows’ Calendar Girl, who returned from a lengthy absence to win at Haydock.
