Static can move quicker than the rest
Steve Hughes has a best bet for the second day of Killarney’s Festival
Tuesday’s feature at Killarney this time features a staying hurdle. I have a strong each-way fancy for the race, hailing from a very much in-form stable.
Killarney 7.50: Static Jack
With an incredible 16 winners in the past fortnight there is no trainer in better form that Gavin Cromwell right now and his Static Jack looks the one to beat here.
The 8yo had his first run for the yard at Down Royal last month when failing by the narrowest of margins to catch Ozzies Way. That represented a real return to form for the gelding who had been pulled up on his previous two starts in the spring.
He had started 2019 well enough with a couple of fourth places, having missed the whole of 2018 through injury. Cromwell went back to basics removing Static Jack’s usual headgear and he responded with a much stronger effort last time. With confidence rebuilt he surely must go close again off a low weight.
Recommended bet:
1pt each-way – Static Jack – 7.50 Killarney – 11/2 William Hill (1/5 odds 1st 4)
Next column – Wednesday 17th July – Day Three Killarney Festival
