Pick Politicise for Listowel feature
Steve Hughes has a best bet for day two at Listowel on Monday
It is the turn of the flat racers at Listowel on Monday and after heavy rain during Sunday the ground will be pretty testing. As such I have picked a proven soft ground performer for today’s big race.
Listowel 3.55: Politicise
After a sighter at the Curragh on debut for trainer Ado McGuinness, Politicise looks sure to be more of a force at Listowel this afternoon – especially with the ground set to ride much slower.
Formerly a promising juvenile with William Haggas last season, he showed up strongly on all three starts, all with at least some cut. That included an all the way win at Newbury and then a decent second under a penalty at Windsor.
This term did not go so well albeit he was a good third at Haydock in May. However he did not really get his preferred ground. Subsequently sold, he had to race on good ground at the Curragh on his stable debut but did well enough to be beaten just 4l on his first try over this 12f trip. With the ground in his favour today and his ability to stay noted, I expect him to be ridden more positively around this sharp track.
Recommended bet:
0.75pts each-way – Politicise – 3.55 Listowel – 14/1 general
Next column – Tuesday 10th September – Listowel day three
