Hungerford Day at Newbury brings a compact but intriguing card, with the Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes providing the afternoon’s highlight. Among the likely protagonists, the Clive Cox-trained Coppull arrives with strong recent form over six furlongs and the profile to appreciate the extra yardage of the seven-furlong feature on a more conventional track.
Coppull’s key formline comes from a fast Newmarket contest where he travelled strongly and appears to be improving. That combination of speed and a tendency to finish strongly suggests the extra furlong at Newbury could be in his favour.
