Story can make the Ayr headlines
Steve Hughes has a selection for the first day of Ayr’s meeting – the biggest fixture in the Scottish flat racing calendar.
A bumper eight race card gets things underway in Scotland and a dry few days means we should get good going for the opening day at Ayr. I have a selection for the feature contest – a listed race.
Ayr 3.30: Whats The Story
Until now What’s The Story has been campaigning solely in handicaps, but he deserves a chance in class 1 company and should be up to this listed contest.
All his best runs this season have come at York, notably last time out when winning a mile handicap at the Ebor meeting. That came from a career high mark of 103 and a further 5lb rise now rules him out of almost all races in that sphere.
He does have form over this 10f trip too though having finished a fine third back at York in July in the John Smith’s Cup. I am confident therefore that he will last the distance in what might prove a slightly tactical affair. A horse blessed with plenty of natural pace, I think he will be suited by this sharpish track.
