Potters Charm to make chasing debut at Worcester

Monday’s racing card features a spread of intriguing prospects, with Potters Charm set to make his chasing debut in the Paul Fergusons Jumpers to Follow Novices’ Chase at Worcester. The six-year-old returned to form in recent months, recording a win at Windsor before following up with Grade Two success in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell, and his connections have long believed fences will suit.

Given that profile Potters Charm naturally heads the market for the Worcester novice and will be expected to show the benefit of his hurdling form as he begins a new chapter over larger obstacles.

Others to note in the Worcester novice

Jupiter des Mottes brings solid hurdle form into the race and has already had a brief outing over fences. The gelding won a competitive handicap hurdle at Perth in April and, having been given a chance to switch yards to Dan Skelton, is one to watch to see whether a step up in trip and a fresh attempt at timber brings him on.

Who’s Glen offers the benefit of experience over fences and could use that to his advantage if the two market fancies encounter problems with the larger obstacles. An Irish pointer, Vicomte le Brave, makes his rules debut in the race, adding an element of uncertainty to an otherwise form-heavy line-up.

Juveniles stepping up: Starburster and Status Symbol

On the Flat at Newcastle, promising two-year-old Starburster is set to make her handicap debut off an opening mark of 82 in the Follow @attheraces On Instagram Nursery Handicap. Trained by Richard Spencer, the filly finished fourth on debut before going on to score at Newbury on her second start, defeating a subsequent winner in the process. Her unexposed profile and early form suggest she will be competitive in a strong juvenile handicap.

At Yarmouth, Status Symbol takes a step up in trip to 10 furlongs in the British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes. The son of Space Blues finished a staying-on fourth on debut at long odds and should be expected to improve for the step up in distance, particularly given his dams stamina on the Flat.

Form lines with festival relevance

Several runners in Mondays card carry form that touches on higher-profile summer meetings. Deira Moon, re-opposing Able Tasman at Yarmouth, produced one of her better efforts at Goodwood the last time she ran, finishing second on that occasion. That Goodwood run provides a useful form reference for connections and racegoers assessing how she might fare off a penalty here.

Meanwhile, a previous renewal of the novice race at Yarmouth was won by Sallaal in 2024, a reminder that several of these early-season juvenile contests can point towards more prominent targets as the year progresses.

Other races to follow

  • Newcastle hosts several contests of interest, including nursery and juvenile events where earlier winners such as Ella Beach and Great Balls O’Fire could feature again.
  • Worcester’s card contains a progressive mares’ handicap chase and a number of races featuring Dan Skelton-trained contenders, including Kykorock and Big Cadillac.
  • Yarmouth’s programme includes a competitive novice stakes and contests in which unexposed sorts may emerge.

With a mix of hurdling formlines, chasing novices and improving juveniles across the three meetings, Monday presents a useful snapshot of horses at different stages of development. For racegoers and festival followers, performances from the likes of Potters Charm, Jupiter des Mottes, Starburster and Status Symbol will be watched for indications of how these horses might progress towards bigger targets later in the season.
