Quantum Leap filly steps up again for York’s Group One test
Inis Mor is set to tackle the Legends Global Yorkshire Oaks at York next week as her connections pursue a first top-level victory. The David Menuisier-trained three-year-old has progressed through the season after a near miss in the Irish Oaks and a Listed success at Goodwood, and her owners have elected to keep her at a mile and a half for the Yorkshire Classic.
Progression through the season
Early in the campaign Inis Mor contested the 1000 Guineas, where a mile proved too sharp for the filly and she was unable to land a blow among the leading milers. Sticking to longer distances has since yielded better form: she gained Listed honours at Goodwood before producing credible Group 1 performances in both the French and Irish Oaks.
The run at the Curragh was Inis Mor’s first over 1m4f and produced a strong finishing effort, prompting connections to keep her at that trip for the time being. Those performances have brought her to the Yorkshire meeting as her next assignment.
York chosen over continental options
Owners Quantum Leap Racing had options when planning the filly’s summer targets, with Listed and Group races on the continent under consideration. Ultimately the decision to travel to York reflects a willingness to take on a competitive field at the Knavesmire rather than switch to Deauville or Longchamp.
The Yorkshire Oaks is expected to provide a stern examination against established fillies and older mares, but the syndicate has indicated they will not avoid a challenge and prefer to test the filly at the highest level available to her.
Longer-term possibilities include Ascot
Looking beyond York, Inis Mor’s connections have not ruled out a return to Ascot later in the season. The filly has been described as recovering well from her races and showing continued maturity through the campaign, which keeps an end-of-season target at the Royal meeting within the realm of possibility.
Whether she remains in training next year has yet to be decided; the syndicate says the option is under consideration given her development this season and the potential to build on her black-type profile.
