Chester selections Thursday 11th May
A wet opening day to the Chester May meeting has ensured soft ground specialists need to be followed for the remainder of the week on the Roodee. My two choices for today will have no issues handling the surface. Tasever was placed for the -each-way bet yesterday (SP 22/1).
Chester 2.05: Theoryofeverything
Incredibly impressive on his racecourse debut on the opening weekend of the turf season, THEORYOFEVERYTHING makes his handicap bow today and he could prove a snip off 94.
His 7l win at Doncaster had the scribes asking whether this horse could be supplemented for the Guineas he was that impressive. The form of that race has held up reasonably well and that effort showed a real liking for testing conditions, just as he will face today.
Indeed trainer John Gosden did put him into the Greenham as a possible Classic warm up. He did not let himself down with a third place finish. Group races surely beckon with any level of improvement, but he looks a class act amongst lower grade rivals today. A wide draw is not likely to be an issue in a relatively small field and given the ground on the inside is already getting very churned up.
Chester 3.45: Amor Vincit Omnia
Trainer Harry Eustace is already establishing a great reputation having taken over the license from his father James last season. In AMOR VINCIT OMNIA he could have a horse to improve on past form for other yards.
I was quite taken by his sixth place on debut for the yard and first attempt over 10f at Newbury last time. He was never really in close contention that day, but seemed to see out the distance in tough conditions and will strip fitter for today.
Prior to that outing his two previous runs on genuine soft ground provided a win at Haydock on his handicap debut off a 1lb higher mark than today. Then he finished 2022 with a third place at Newbury in a better quality race over just 7f. The breeding on his dam’s side contains plenty of stamina and with no concerns about the ground he looks worth taking a chance on from what is effectively a 5lb lower mark than his comeback with his jockey also taking off 3lbs.
Recommended bets:

1pt each-way – Amor Vincit Omnia – 3.45 Chester – 13/2 Paddy Power, BetVictor (1/5 odds 1st 4)
