Listowel selection Wednesday 22nd September
The big race of the week at Listowel today sees a host of well know horses line up for the Kerry National. JP McManus and Michael O’Leary are responsible for more than half of the field, but we are taking them on with an each-way bet. We had a cracking day with our Listowel nap on Monday with Autumn Evening winning (advised 18/1), Coventry was also placed for the each-way bet (18/1).
Listowel 4.25: BEN DUNDEE
There are some class acts lining up in the Kerry National and I can see why Farclas is strongly fancied after his fine placed form in the top spring handicaps, notably in the Grand National at Aintree. However whether he will be sharp enough first time out at shortish odds is open to question and a bet on the much bigger priced BEN DUNDEE is recommended.
The 9yo was behind quite a few of these in the Galway Plate, but was never put in the race that day from the back of the field around that sharp track. He was seen to better effect just two days later under today’s pilot Ricky Doyle when second to Battleoverdoyen.
He is still relatively unexposed over fences but has finished third and fifth over the bigger obstacles at the Cheltenham Festival in the past and he should stay this 3m on a flat track and decent going. He has plenty of solid form in big field handicaps and off 141 is fairly weighted given what he has achieved.
Recommended bets:
1pt each-way – Ben Dundee – 4.25 Listowel – 20/1 general (Paddy Power 1/5 odds 1st 6)
