Royal Ascot Day Four: Commonwealth Cup & Coronations Stakes – The Contenders

Day Four at Royal Ascot sees two Group 1 contests, the Commonwealth Cup over 6f which sees Aidan O’Brien saddle Ten Sovereigns. The Coronation Stakes 40 minutes later O’Brien saddles dual Guineas winner Hermosa, who is odds on to back that up at this meeting.

3.40 Commonwealth Cup

TEN SOVEREIGNS (Trainer: Aidan O’Brien, Jockey: Ryan Moore) 5-4: Seems to be back at the trip that suits best, although a tad unlucky in 2000 Guineas. Form of that race has been mixed.

JASH (Simon Crisford, Jim Crowley) 9-2: Only defeat was by half a length to the favourite. Value at the prices.

ADVERTISE (Martyn Meade, Frankie Dettori) 11-2: Big question mark after nothing run in 2000 Guineas.

KHAADEM (Charlie Hills, Dane O’Neill) 15-2: Big step in class for this one but going and trip should suit.

HELLO YOUMZAIN (Kevin Ryan, Kevin Stott) 8-1: Very solid form in the book. EW claims.

RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE (Richard Spencer, James Doyle) 25-1: Gave a good account against favorite over this distance last year. Hard to know how how we will be with no run this year.

FOREVER IN DREAMS (Aidan Fogarty, Oisin Murphy) 33-1: Good effort last time but a long way to improve for this.

KONCHEK (Clive Cox, Adam Kirby) 50-1: Not good enough to challenge market leaders.

ROYAL INTERVENTION (Ed Walker, Gerard Mosse) 66-1: Got close enough to Hello Youmzain in small field last time but price is not far wrong.

4.20 Coronation Stakes

HERMOSA (Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore) 5-6: Two perfect runs this year.

CASTLE LADY (Henri-Alex Pantall, Mickael Barzalona) 13-2: Unbeaten, taking the French Guineas last time. To be respected.

JUBILOSO (Michael Stoute, James McDonald) 13-2: Two strolls at a level, this is much harder but obviously she has scope to improve.

TWIST ‘N’ SHAKE (John Gosden, Frankie Dettori) 9-1: Should act on going but a lot more needed than form suggests is there.

PRETTY POLLYANNA (Michael Bell, Silvestre De Sousa) 12-1: Form solid and must have EW claims.

WATCH ME (Francis-Henri Graffard, Pierre-Charles Boudot) 16-1: Not hugely far behind Castle Lady in French Guineas.

HAPPEN (Aidan O’Brien, Donnacha O’Brien) 20-1: Like many from this yard, the bare form is not outstanding but improvement cannot be ruled out.

JUST WONDERFUL (Aidan O’Brien, Seamie Heffernan) 22-1: A bit hit and miss but on her best could make the frame.

MAIN EDITION (Mark Johnston, Oisin Murphy) 50-1: German Guineas winner and price is probably harsh, but others preferred.

MOT JUSTE: Non-runner.
