York selection Friday 16th May
The final day of three at York and today’s card looks particularly tricky. I am just going to focus on the one race today, the 10f handicap. Old Cock was a winner for us yesterday (advised 15/2).
York 2.42: Tony Montana
For one reason or another, not too many of these horses are in proven form, but TONY MONTANA comes here off the back of a very encouraging run on his comeback at Goodwood recently.
Prominent throughout on that occasion, he hit the front going like a winner 2f out, but was in the end no match for Sir Lowry Pass, though he kept on well to the line. There should be every reason to think he will come on for that and trainer Michael Bell is happy to let him take his chance again here just thirteen days later.
The horse already has excellent form on the Knavesmire having finished a highly creditable third in last summer’s John Smiths Cup. He is only 5lbs higher today, despite some fine efforts in handicaps since, won’t mind the good ground at all and his running style is set up perfectly for this track as he is usually ridden just off the leader.
Recommended bets:
1pt each-way – Tony Montana – 2.42 York – 7/1 general (most bookies 1/5 odds 1st 4)
