Uttoxeter selections Saturday 14th March
After all the excitement of Cheltenham, Uttoxeter picks up the baton for big races with the Midlands National the big highlight. I am concentrating solely on the feature with two selections. We finished Cheltenham off on a high with headline selection Gaelic Warrior easing to victory in the Gold Cup (advised 7/2). Karbau (advised 9/2) and Joyeuse (SP 12/1) were also both placed for the each-way bets in the County.
Uttoxeter 3.00: Rock My Way & Jupiter Allen
Two West Country raiders are fancied for the Midlands National.
Despite having to shoulder top weight of 12-0, ROCK MY WAY has strong claims this afternoon. Mr Vango managed to win off that weight in the 2025 renewal and Joe Tizzard’s charge has shown himself to be a real contender in these marathon chases.
He landed the new Berkshire National at Ascot in November having performed to a high level as a novice with a second place in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham and a fine fifth in the Scottish National. His cause was hampered by a slow start when only eighth in the Welsh National and despite jumping way out to his left he only found one horse to good in the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh last time. He should find this left-handed track far more to his liking and the fact the ground is not as bottomless as it can be at Uttoxeter is definitely a promising sign.
In opposition though, JUPITER ALLEN might be too good. He too ran in the National Hunt Chase at last season’s Festival, but that probably came a bit too early in his career. However since getting soft ground this season, he has proved a progressive stayer.
He stayed on for second over 3m6f at Exeter in December. He probably found the going a bit quick when only third at Wincanton over Christmas, but back at the same track he was an 11l winner on heavy ground on his last start. He is only 6lbs higher today so the handicapper might not have quite got a grip on this 7yo yet.
