Best Mate Won 3 Successive Cheltenham Gold Cups
Best Mate won the Cheltenham Gold Cup a record three times in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He was the first horse to win the Gold Cup more than once since L’Escargot in 1970 and 1971. Best Mate was trained by Henrietta Knight at her Lockinge stables. He tragically died whilst racing in 2005.
