THE EBOR FESTIVAL AT YORK

The Ebor Festival four-day racing festival held at York Racecourse in each August was first established in 1843 with the first running of the Ebor Handicap.

York Racecourse fixtures are held on the famous Knavesmire turf from May to October, with a host of top-class races including the Dante Stakes and top handicap the John Smith’s Cup.

Originally a 3-day race meeting, now a 4-day racing festival, the Ebor Festival in August features the Juddmonte International, the Yorkshire Oaks, Nunthorpe Stakes and of course, the Ebor Handicap itself.

Today the Ebor Festival is one of the biggest meetings on the UK racing fixtures calendar and the race meeting is regarded as York racecourse’s flagship event. Each of the four days has a feature race – or two!

As one of the last major race meetings of the UK Flat racing season, The Ebor Festival attracts racegoers from all over the UK and overseas and of course the best horses and jockeys.

Award-winning grandstands and a superb course combine to make The Ebor Festival a glorious summertime race meeting.

YORK RACECOURSE: POSSIBLY THE FINEST RACECOURSE IN THE UK

[divider slashed]

[columns]
[column third]

Seen by many as not only the finest racecourse in the north, but in the whole of the UK, York Racecourse provides the best Flat racing can offer.

York Racecourse, opened in 1731, is a galloping two-miles and was extended to stage longer races in 2005 when Royal Ascot was re-routed to York. The course is a left-hand perfectly flat track with a home straight of about 5f.

There is no fairer course in the country, giving no advantage to any type of horse. Low numbers best in sprints when the going is soft.
