Ascot is famous as a world-class racecourse, conference and sporting venue and home of the Royal Ascot race meeting. Located 6 miles from Windsor, Ascot Racecourse was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and is still in Royal ownership today. Up until 1945, the only racing that took place at Ascot Racecourse was the Royal Ascot meeting, but since 1945 many more racing fixtures including major races like the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes are run at Ascot Racecourse. When they’re not playing host to Royal Ascot in June, Ascot Racecourse has a full racing fixtures calendar, including the Qipco British Champions Day + supporting entertainment attracting a wide audience; from occasional racegoers on a fun day out, to serious racing aficionados. Ascot Racecourse however is best known for Royal Ascot, which Her Majesty The Queen attends every day. One of the highlights of this truly unmissable royal race meeting is the Royal Procession with HM The Queen in an open carriage making its way from the Golden Gates along the racecourse and into the Parade Ring at 2.00 pm each day. Ascot Racecourse is located 36 miles from London (a 50 minute drive), and 15 miles from Reading, near the junction between the A329 and A330. Access from M3 (Junc 3) and M4 (Junc 6) Frequent rail service from Waterloo to Ascot, station adjoins course.
