Indeed the Newmarket Rowley Mile course is named after King Charles II’s favourite horse Old Rowley, which he often rode at Newmarket in the 1660’s. Today our Queen Elizabeth II loves to go racing and is a knowledgeable racehorse owner, attending both the Derby and Royal Ascot every year.
